Idea Logical Founder and CEO Mike Shatzkin began his book publishing career in high school as a sales clerk in the brand new paperback department of Brentano's Bookstore on 5th Avenue. He worked on a scheduling system for the industry's largest jacket printer and got his first experience supervising commission sales reps before he graduated from UCLA in 1969. His first post-graduate act was to write The View from Section 111, the story of the New York Knicks' first championship season, for Prentice-Hall to publish in 1970. In the 1970s, at The Two Continents Publishing Group, he did production, publicity, marketing, and sales through every conceivable channel, forming the experiential basis for a consulting career that began in 1979. Along the way, he had written or had a hand in creating six books, two record albums of his own and three of a band he co-managed. His thoughts on publishing are frequently published by The Bookseller in Britain and Publishers Weekly in New York. He has worked as an independent consultant for companies large and small since 1979. He founded The Idea Logical Company in 1994. |
